Tonight, It’s Gonna Be A Party

8 Jun

Yo yo yo! Tonight’s is Queen’s Players (Toronto), and I can’t wait! If you don’t know what Queen’s Players is – well, Google that shit! It’s comedy, it’s rock and roll, it’s sex and drugs (not really Mom, promise), it’s you in high school, university, and the best thing you’ll ever want to do. (Okay, He wouldn’t describe it this way, but it’s my post, and I’ma do what I want).

Tonight marks the first night I’ll see the new show, True Rock. It’s gonna be amazing. My friend Shira and I choreographed the accapella and one of the dance numbers, since both our schedules are too erratic to audition to be in the show these days. See some of our past AWESOME work here and here. Hopefully, next year that will change and we can both take the stage again. IT WOULD BE LIKE THIS:

There maaaay still be some tickets at the door for this run, so if you’re looking for, oh, a really great time, I suggest you get. on. that.

Or, if you’re in Kingston, go see Queen’s Players (the orig.)! It’s also super awesome, and the band this year is killer. Buy my man Charles a beer while you’re there, since he’s been doing sound for us since the beginning of time and has also done sound for some of the most bitchin’ bands that ever graced the international stages in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Seriously. The man’s a legend.

STARSHIPS WERE MEANT TO FLY! HANDS UP AND TOUCH THE SKY. CAN’T STOP ‘CUS WE’RE SO HIGH. LET’S DO THIS ONE MORE TIME!

Whoaaa! Check out this sweet-ass video made by a friend of ours. I didn’t really follow what was happening and didn’t know this occured until well, about five minutes ago. Luckily, through the power of modern technology, I don’t have to stay up to date on natural events that only occur once a century!

I can just watch them online!

Meet Our Friends: Doggo

23 Apr

Doggo is the best friend a girl or boy could have. Thoughtful, smart, and always ready to dance,  he’s there whenever you need him, whether it’s a kind word, a paw to high-five, or just a hula skirt to cry on.

Doggo was my gift to BFF when she first got her car, a Ford Tempo lovingly dubbed The Temponator. Doggo was around through thick and thin all through high-school and even university. Doggo went through some tough times, like when his hula skirt fell off, and when he came apart because his spring was broken, but BFF has always taken great care of him and I’m happy to say he’s now back in one piece, right where he belongs. Although the Temponator has reached its rusty grave, Doggo lives on in Boppa6, BFF’s new car.

1. How did you get your unique name, Doggo?

Well Her, I believe you were actually there, with my owner, the day of my naming. A really great U2 song came on and you all added an O to the ends of your short form name… example: Racho, Kato, Micho, Shanno… I didn’t have a name yet so the O was added to Dog, and thus, I became Doggo!

2. Where is the most exciting place you’ve ever been?

I have been many places… all fairly close to home. But I think the most exciting was the road to Honey Harbour… boy oh boy I thought we were going to be in the ditch so many times! Less exciting, more… thrilling!

3. What is your favorite memory of The Temponator, Rachel’s old car?

The best memory of the Temponator would possibly be… in Waterloo. Rachel was driving to work one day and a mouse climbed up out of the vents in the hood and cruised along the windshield! Man I wanted to catch that mouse so bad!!!

4. If there is one place you could go, where would it be?

If I could go anywhere it would be a road trip across Canada and the United States… so much to see! Just boppin’ along in hot hot sun! Living the dream..

5. If you had one piece of advice for Him and Her, what would it be?

Some advice for Him and Her is never buy a fake grass skirt. They are so cheap and fall apart! You gotta get a genuine grass skirt if you want it to last! And always wear SPF!

Doggo, Doggo, Doggo… we can’t thank you enough for your sage words of wisdom. You truly are man’s best friend.

Meet Our Friends: Hallae K

12 Apr

Hallae is a blogger at I Wear Black (formerly La Mode Au Naturelle). She’s into fashion and beauty and somehow finds a way to wear fur to Boston Pizza and make it look totally cool and natural and not weird and bizarre like if I did it.

Hallae is another Queen’s Players alumni and I met her during the show when I played Carrie and she played the Exorcist chick and she spit warm pea soup on my face. She’s in fashion school right now and rocks amazing looks wherever she goes, while still telling funny jokes and drinking wine in steam rooms.

Third on the list, but first in our hearts – Hallae everybody.

1. Who do you like more? Him or Her?

I have to say Her, she’s my Players sister after all!

2. What has been your favorite experience in Toronto?

Lucky for me I get to relive my favourite Toronto experience every September when the film festival comes in! Whether you see the films or not, the weather’s great, the city’s booming with activity, and we can all feel like mini celebrities for a few days. But a close second would have to be my marathon walks in Toronto during warmer weather: Eaton centre to Yorkmills, the Beaches to the Eaton centre…why does it always come back to the Eaton centre?

3. If you don’t want your future kids to know one thing about you, what would it be?

I may have the keep that one thing to myself, but that second thing would be my study habits (or lack thereof). The future kids will be doing as mom says, not as mom does.

4. What song do you want played at your funeral?

That’s a big question…something epic. Like “One Day More” – Les Mis kind of epic.

5. If you could jump into anything, what would you jump into?

Really cold pillows. Face first.

Bababadaaaaaaa! And that’s Hallae. She’s cool, she’s in school, and she looks great in tulle. Read her blog. Kiss her face. Give her monies.

Meet Our Friends: Fred Crossley

30 Mar

Poppin’ Fresh, Toronto’s own New Brunswick born n’ bred DJ of the night. That makes sense, right?

How do we know Fred? Because we’re out partying every night, obvi. And because he went to high school with Him back when He had a chin strap, wore plaid in a non ironic way and didn’t do silly dances in our kitchen. Fred is a sparse, yet important and good looking part of our lives, and if you don’t believe us, check him out Monday nights at Czehoski and seem for yourself. Don’t eat the Ruffles All Dressed though. Those are for me.

As the second profilee in our new installment, please welcome friend with open arms – and ladies, he’s single.

1. How/When did you first meet Him or Her? If it’s boring, make it up!

I first met HIM in high school, when he was the “new kid” from Toronto. He had a fake ID and loved grand theft auto…fit right in.

First time I met HER was when HE brought HER to a basement poker game at some guys house. It was a big sausage fest, and I was exceptionally high at the time. I felt I made a poor first impression but we’re still hanging out, so I must have done something right!

2. What has been your favorite experience in Toronto?

Having more sex than previous cities I’ve lived in.

3. If you don’t want your future kids to know one thing about you, what would it be?

That my motto all through University was “aim low and succeed.”

4. What song do you want played at your funeral?

Tupac – Thugz Mansion (Acoustic Version) & Daft Punk – High Life…..as everyone is leaving.

5. If you could jump into anything, what would you jump into?

Worm Hole (the space kind)

And that’s DJ Poppin’ Fresh friends and foes. Check out his latest mix here – it sounds best with a vodka-cran in your hand.

Meet Our Friends: Jim Robinson

26 Mar

Jim Jim Jim – what’s there to say? The man is funny. I met Jim while working on Queen’s Players in my second show. Then he directed me, I directed him, and now he’s totally famous.

Yes, that is really a giant billboard for Rickard's, and yes, that is really Jim. It was at Yonge-Eglinton awhile ago.

Jim (@RimJobinson) hosts BeerProv every so often at Comedy Bar down at Bloor and Ossington. It’s a totally fun show, and he even let me give it a shot last week – it was a complete blast. I got drunk and told someone to go buy a pitcher on my Visa card. The jokes on them though – I don’t have any money.

In our new installment, we’re profiling some of friends so you can have the chance to meet them, love them, and throw them away, just like us.

1. Who do you like more? Him or Her?

Her, Shannon. Based purely on the fact that I have known her longer. Does that mean she is a better person than Liam? Clearly not. Shannon Mitchell is a brute, a loud mouth, a cheat and a sleaze. But I have known her longer. I respect my relationship with the space-time continuum.

2. What has been your favorite experience in Toronto?

Being able to take part in a number of shows that are associated with the Second City has been a tremendous experience for me.

3. If you don’t want your future kids to know one thing about you, what would it be?

A whole bunch of things, I’m sure. But since the internet will be even more powerful when they’re growing up, I will refrain from publishing that information on the information superhighway.

4. What song do you want played at your funeral?

Either “Enter Sandman” by Metallica or “Dancing Queen” by Abba. I’d leave it up to the people in charge of the service. Who knows what the mood will be like at my funeral…

5. If you could jump into anything, what would you jump into?

A nice suit.

And there you have it ladies and germs – Jim Robinson. He’s a stand-up guy who does stand-up. Go see his next show – we’ll let you know when it’s happening, we promise. And hey, buy the kid a gin, too.
